There are multiple reasons we chose “Traveling Mountains” as the title for our journey. The first is I am a sucker for themes. Our last name, Berg, means “mountain” in several Germanic languages. In that respect, the name refers to us—the Bergs who are traveling. We are taking on the challenge of nomadic life and taking in the sights of this amazing world God created. Mountains are the perfect landscape to symbolize our adventures to come.
Another angle behind the name is through Matthew 17:20 “And He said to them, ‘Because of the littleness of your faith; for truly I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you.” Jesus was speaking literally, but I think we can look at this figuratively as well and use “mountains” to refer to any challenge in life. With faith, we can overcome any challenge or trial. Thomas and I are mustering up some faith to conquer this mountain. Two introverts with no particular crafting skills are modifying a van to head out into the mission field. God is already clearing a path for us, making it clear despite creeping doubt that we are moving in the right direction. He has placed people in our lives who are willing and able to help with the construction of our new home and many others to pray for us along the way.
